Thank you for your interest in the Morinville Curling Club’s Junior Curling Program! Curling is a
great sport that can be enjoyed at any age and one that promotes teamwork and fun.

The Junior Curling Program does not require any previous experience or knowledge of curling.
We have qualified coaches on the ice to teach the fundamentals of the game. We may require
parent volunteers to assist with supervision throughout the season.

There are a few rules that need to be followed in order for everyone to enjoy the program:

  • There are no outside shoes permitted past the doors to the ice (this includes parents and
supervisors). Outside shoes bring dirt and debris onto the ice and affect the entire game.
You can purchase curling shoes from the club ($20-$40 depending on the shoe), plus
GST, if we have the correct size available. Alternatively, clean running shoes can be
worn on the ice surface as long as they haven’t been worn outside.
  • Horseplay cannot be permitted in the curling club. This is especially important on the ice;
the rocks weigh 40 lbs and falling on them or having one run into a foot can cause injury.
There is no running on the ice and no one is permitted to throw sliders, brooms or any
other objects on the ice. This can result in injury to others, as well as damage to the ice
    surface.
  • Foul language will not be tolerated. This is a youth sport and we ask that all participants
    are shown respect.
  • Participants are expected to listen to the coaching and to stay focused during the
lessons. This is a team sport and we want everyone to have the opportunity to learn and
    have fun.

The classes usually begin with stretching, followed by instruction and practice of a curling
technique, and conclude with a game to practice what has been learned. Please make sure
that your child is able to tie their own shoe laces. We will show the kids how to put on their
sliders and will make sure they can do so independently. It is an arena and, therefore, can
become fairly cold. Kids should wear comfortable pants (jeans are not recommended), a warm
coat or hoodie, as well as a toque and gloves. If the kids are too warm, they can always take a
coat or gloves off, but if they get cold and don’t have extra clothing, they won’t have too much
fun.

All sessions take place on Sundays and begin on-ice at 1pm. We will try to end at 2pm, but may
